Not a whole lot of progress was made on Rusty this month.  We have been busy ripping out the deck in our back yard and then replacing it with a new stamped concrete patio.  However, I did manage to get a few things done....

I installed the new bushings into the spindles and then the new kingpins.  I had mentioned that it is a concern if the bushings go in to easy, which luckily I feel they went in with the right amount of resistance.

At this point, I had the driver's side backing plate cleaned up and painted and the new brakes attached.  I had run into a snag where I couldn't get the wheel hub off the old drums to install onto the new drums I had painted.  The wheel bolts come out easy enough, but there are 3 "knobs" that poke through which I couldn't get out.  I put a message on one of the truck forums and received a response back that these are actually rivets that I would have to grind off if I could "punch" them out.  The poster also mentioned that he has been running his truck for years without those 3 rivets and it has never been a concern.  I agree that the 6 bolts are enough to hold the hub on and grinded those suckers right off.

The next step was to install the new tapered bearings into the hubs.  I packed the bearings and then installed them and started to install the drum back onto the spindle.  The new bearings are a very tight fit and I can't put the drum back on without force.  I stopped at this point to call Brother's Trucks for advice.

Speaking of Brother's Trucks - they had a good sale in August and I decided to purchase their one-piece glass kit for the doors.  The price was too good to pass up even if I need other things more than this.  I had a little bit left over from my monthly truck allowance (and birthday money), so I purchased a couple of small items that I needed to go with the radiator I still need to by and a couple of chrome goodies for the engine.

That's it for August 04, let's move on to September...
